Join us for this three part series featuring Agnieszka Woynarowski (Holly Farm) and Kathryn
Eldred (Why Knot Fiber) in processing wool from start to finish. We’ll discuss and demonstrate washing the fleece, carding, spinning yarn, and explore available markets.
Part One Processing – June 29th, 10a
We’ll examine commonly used methods for processing wool following shearing. During this session, we’ll make soap for washing fleeces, build a simple drying rack, prepare the fleeces for carding, and talk about storage of processed wool.
Part Two Carding – July 6th, 10a
Agnes will take us through the process of creating roving from fleece by way of hand and drum carders. She’ll also demonstrate felting techniques and talk about other popular uses for roving.
Part Three Spinning – July 13th, 10a
Join us in the historic DeYoung farmhouse parlor for tea and a talk with Kat on the art of spinning. Kat will demonstrate the drop spindle and spinning wheel while sharing her thoughts on the local fiber market and art of spinning and dying wool.
Workshops will be held at the DeYoung Farmstead on Cherry Bend Road. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register. All HTF workshops and classes are free and open to the public.
